As a Youth Sports Organization, Patterson Park Youth Baseball is required by Ohio law to have all its board members, managers and coaches complete online concussion awareness training and comply with Lindsey's Law. You will find a link to the websites with the video you must watch to obtain the concussion certificate of completion in this email. Once you complete the concussion video, I suggest that you print a hard copy and save the electronic version to your computer. The certificate applies to all sports you coach.
Ignore anything that suggests there is a cost to take the course. It is free. You will need to register if you have not through the process before. The steps below assume you have not done taken the class before. If you have trouble with the website links below, just google: Ohio concussion training and you will find a link to a class. The classes are free.
You should be able to figure the process from there.
Click here for a frequently asked questions (FAQ) informational sheet on Lindsey's law, regarding sudden cardiac arrest in youth athletes. The law went into effect last year, and requires that coaches as well as youth athletes and their parents watch an information video, be given an informational handout, and complete and submit to PPYB a required signature page before an athlete can participate in practices. The process must be completed annually, and for every sport that a youth athlete participates. In order to access the required parent and coach resources, please go to the Ohio Department of Health's Lindsay's Law page located at http://www.odh.ohio.gov/landing/Lindsays-Law.aspx. All coaches will need to review the video and materials posted on the ODH website, and then reply to your VP with an email acknowledgement that you have completed the required materials and meet the requirements of Lindsay's Law as posted on the ODH website.Lindsey's law also requires that each parent sign a form attesting they have watched the same video. Technically, children are supposed to watch the video with their parents. We need to have managers collect the signed forms for each player on the team. Since the law requires the form, the Board also instituted the following policy. No child is permitted to play in any regular season games until the child's manager receives a Lindsey's Law form property signed. This means all forms must be turned in before the first regular season game. Kids may play in scrimmages. We will have forms available in the concession stand for anyone who needs one.
